Portable mobile jaw crusher basic knowledge

Portable mobile jaw crusher (also called mobile jaw crushing plant) integrates feeding, crushing, conveying and walking systems on one movable chassis. It takes jaw crusher as the core crushing host. Different from fixed crushing stations, it can directly drive to mining sites, construction waste demolition sites without fixed foundation installation. Raw materials are crushed on-site, eliminating long-distance transportation of bulk stones and greatly cutting transportation costs.

There are two mainstream categories in the market: wheel type portable mobile jaw crusher and tracked mobile jaw crusher. The core host mostly adopts PE / PEV / PEW series jaw crushers for primary coarse crushing.

1. Main Composition of Mobile Jaw Crushing Plant

The whole set of equipment is assembled into a modular unit, including six core modules:

1.1 Jaw Crusher Host

Core crushing unit, generally PE coarse jaw or European PEV jaw crusher, completes hard rock primary crushing.

1.2 Vibrating Feeder

Installed at the front of the jaw crusher. Uniformly feed raw ore; equipped with grizzly bar screening function to separate fine soil and small stones in advance, improve crushing efficiency and reduce cavity blockage.

1.3 On-board Conveyor Belt

Discharging belt conveyor, transports crushed stones to the next process. The belt frame can be folded for convenient transportation.

1.4 Chassis & Walking System

  • Wheel type: Tire chassis, matched with tractor or heavy truck for traction transfer, suitable for flat ground, highway transportation.
  • Track type: Crawler chassis, hydraulic drive, self-propelled, adapts to rugged mountain roads, muddy mining areas without pavement.

1.5 Power Drive Module

Two power configurations:

  1. Electric drive: External industrial power grid, low operating cost, low noise;
  2. Diesel-electric integrated drive: Equipped with on-board diesel generator set, suitable for sites without power supply.

1.6 Control & Auxiliary System

Central PLC control cabinet, hydraulic system, dust suppression spray device, anti-splash baffle, maintenance platform.

2. Two Main Types & Core Differences

2.1 Wheel Type Portable Mobile Jaw Crusher

  • Transfer mode: Towed by truck; needs highway transport formalities for long-distance relocation.
  • Adaptation site: Quarries with flat terrain, urban construction waste recycling projects, road engineering temporary crushing sites.
  • Advantages: Low manufacturing cost, light weight, fast highway transportation.
  • Disadvantages: Cannot walk freely on muddy, steep mountain terrain.

2.2 Tracked Mobile Jaw Crusher

  • Transfer mode: Self-propelled by hydraulic crawler, can turn in situ, freely move on slopes and muddy ground.
  • Adaptation site: Open-pit mines, mountain mining areas, remote ungraded working sites.
  • Advantages: Strong off-road performance, flexible on-site layout.
  • Disadvantages: Higher equipment investment cost.

3. Working Flow Principle

  1. The whole machine moves to the designated crushing point and stabilizes the parking position;
  2. Raw ore is sent into the vibrating feeder by excavator;
  3. Fine impurities are screened out by feeder grizzly bars; qualified bulk materials enter the jaw crusher crushing cavity;
  4. The jaw crusher completes extrusion primary crushing;
  5. Crushed stones fall onto the on-board discharge conveyor and are transported to stockpile or sent to the next mobile crushing unit (mobile cone / mobile impact crusher);
  6. After one area is finished, the whole machine can directly move forward to the next working point without material transportation.

4. Applicable Materials

Hard and medium-hard brittle materials with compressive strength ≤320 MPa:

  • Natural stone: granite, basalt, river pebble, limestone, bluestone
  • Mining ore: iron ore, copper ore, gold ore, manganese ore
  • Recycled materials: waste concrete, broken asphalt, construction brick waste Not suitable: High-viscosity wet mud, sticky clay, easy to cause cavity blockage.

5. Typical Application Scopes

  1. Open-pit mine in-situ primary crushing;
  2. Highway, railway, water conservancy project temporary on-site stone processing;
  3. Urban construction waste resource recycling;
  4. Scattered small quarry temporary production;
  5. Emergency engineering, remote projects without fixed power supply.

6. Core Advantages of Mobile Jaw Crusher

  1. Cancel fixed civil foundation construction, save foundation investment and construction cycle;
  2. Crush materials on the spot, avoid long-distance truck transportation of raw stones, reduce fuel and freight costs;
  3. Highly integrated unit, one set of equipment realizes feeding + crushing + conveying; easy layout;
  4. Flexible relocation, one machine can serve multiple working sites successively;
  5. Optional diesel power generation, adapt to sites without industrial electricity.

7. Limitations & Key Usage Notes

  1. Positioning: Almost all mobile jaw units are used for primary coarse crushing. If finished aggregate needs good particle shape, it must be matched with mobile cone crusher or mobile impact crusher to form two-stage crushing.
  2. Feeding limit: Must strictly follow the maximum feeding size of the supporting jaw host. Oversized ore easily causes jaw crusher jamming.
  3. Continuous long-time climbing operation is forbidden for tracked models to avoid overheating of hydraulic system.
  4. Vibration during crushing will affect the chassis, regularly check connecting bolts of all modules.
  5. On-board space is compact; daily lubrication and maintenance of jaw crusher must be carried out on schedule to prevent bearing overheating.

8. Common Matching Production Combination Schemes

  1. Single unit: Mobile jaw crusher → produce coarse materials for road base filling;
  2. Two-stage closed circuit crushing: Mobile jaw crusher + Mobile cone crusher + Mobile vibrating screen Produce standard medium and fine aggregate for concrete;
  3. Two-stage shaping crushing: Mobile jaw crusher + Mobile impact crusher For high-quality highway aggregate and machine-made sand raw materials.

9. Selection Key Points

  1. Terrain condition: Flat urban projects choose wheel type; mountain, muddy mining areas choose tracked type;
  2. Power condition: Stable power grid prefer electric type; remote no-power sites select diesel integrated type;
  3. Required hourly output: Determine matched jaw crusher model (PE400×600, PE600×900 etc.);
  4. Finished product demand: Judge whether secondary crushing equipment needs to be equipped;
  5. Transportation condition: Check maximum overall dimension to meet highway container transport requirements.
