Methods to extend jaw plate service life of jaw crusher
1. Optimize Raw Material Conditions
- Control feeding particle size strictly. Oversized stones frequently cause heavy impact and localized stress on jaw plates. Keep feed size within the equipment’s designed range.
- Reduce sticky, wet and muddy materials. Wet viscous ore adheres to the crushing cavity, changes actual crushing clearance and causes uneven wear.
- Remove non-crushing impurities like iron blocks, steel bars and metal scraps. Hard foreign objects will create severe impact damage or even crack the jaw plate.
- Grade raw materials if possible. Mixing fine powder properly can buffer direct collision between large rocks and jaw plates.
2. Reasonable Operation & Parameter Adjustment
- Maintain uniform continuous feeding. Avoid partial feeding, which leads to one-sided wear of movable and fixed jaw plates.
- Set proper discharge gap. Too small gap increases squeezing force and accelerates abrasion; too large gap reduces crushing efficiency and causes repeated cyclic impact.
- Do not run the machine under overload for long periods. Overload raises contact pressure on jaw plate working surface and speeds up material abrasion.
- Prevent empty running. Idle operation brings unnecessary metal-to-metal impact between jaw plates. Stop feeding first before shutdown.
3. Jaw Plate Material & Installation Management
- Select matched jaw plate materials according to ore hardness: high manganese steel for hard rock; high chromium alloy composite jaw plates for highly abrasive stone.
- Install jaw plates tightly. Eliminate gaps between jaw plate and jaw body. Use filler (zinc alloy or cement mortar) to ensure full contact, avoiding local vibration and loose bolts.
- Check fastening bolts regularly. Loose jaw plate bolts are a common cause of accelerated wear and plate cracking. Retighten bolts during routine inspection.
- Flip jaw plates in time. Most jaw plates have symmetrical structure. When one side wears down to a certain degree, reverse and reinstall to use the other working face, double service life. Replace jaw plates before excessive wear damages the jaw body.
4. Regular Equipment Inspection & Maintenance
- Check the toggle plate, toggle seat and bearing clearance. Abnormal clearance causes unstable swing trajectory of movable jaw, leading to irregular jaw plate wear.
- Keep the crushing cavity clean. Clear accumulated materials after shutdown to avoid hard deposits affecting jaw movement.
- Monitor lubrication system. Poor lubrication causes abnormal swing resistance of movable jaw, changes crushing force distribution and worsens jaw plate abrasion.
- Check wear condition periodically. Establish wear log to track thinning rate of tooth profile, arrange replacement plan in advance.
5. Crushing Cavity Structure Optimization
- Choose tooth profile matching your material: sharp teeth for coarse crushing of large blocks; dense flat teeth for fine crushing. Worn tooth profile will reduce crushing performance and increase abrasion.
- Ensure the matching between movable jaw and fixed jaw tooth shape. Poor tooth engagement leads to point contact instead of surface contact, generating concentrated stress.
6. Additional Practical Tips
- Arrange pre-screening before crusher to remove fine particles in advance, lowering the load on jaw plates.
- For highly abrasive ore, adopt overlay welding repair on worn jaw plate surface (professional welding required) to restore tooth shape and extend usage time.
- Train operators to avoid sudden feeding fluctuation, impact loading and metal entering the cavity.
