Lubrication System Maintenance Guide for Jaw Crusher
The lubrication system is the core guarantee for the normal operation of a jaw crusher. Good lubrication reduces friction and wear between moving parts, lowers operating temperature, prevents metal corrosion, and extends service life of bearings, toggle plates and other key components. Improper lubrication will cause bearing overheating, jamming, or even sudden shutdown and equipment damage.
2. Lubricant Selection Requirements
- Grease type: For jaw crusher bearings, lithium-based grease or extreme pressure lithium grease is commonly used. Select grease grade according to ambient temperature.
- Low temperature environment: thinner grease
- High temperature continuous operation site: high temperature resistant extreme pressure grease
- Oil quality rules: Use only qualified, clean lubricants. Do not mix different brands or types of grease, as chemical reactions may deteriorate lubrication performance.
- Storage: Keep grease sealed and stored in dry, dust-free space; avoid mixing with dust, sand, water and impurities.
3. Daily Lubrication Inspection & Operation
- Before startup: Check grease quantity of movable jaw bearing, eccentric shaft bearing. Confirm no oil leakage at sealing points. Check whether the grease pipeline is unblocked.
- During operation: Monitor bearing temperature. Normal bearing temperature ≤70℃. If temperature rises rapidly, stop the machine immediately to check lubrication status.
- Grease filling:
- Manually add grease at regular intervals for small jaw crushers;
- For models equipped with centralized automatic lubrication system, check the grease pump, pipeline and controller daily;
- Do not overfill grease. Excessive grease will cause heat accumulation and bearing overheating.
4. Periodic Maintenance Schedule
Daily
- Check for grease leakage at bearing housing, oil pipe joints and seals.
- Check whether the grease supply is normal.
- Observe bearing temperature and abnormal noise.
Weekly
- Clean grease filling ports. Remove dust and debris around lubrication points.
- Inspect grease pump and filter of centralized lubrication system; clean filter if blocked.
Monthly
- Check the aging and wear status of oil seals. Replace damaged oil seals in time to prevent dust and slurry entering bearing chamber.
- Discharge old grease and refill new grease for key bearing positions.
Quarterly / Seasonal
- Fully clean the lubrication pipeline and bearing cavity. Completely remove deteriorated, hardened old grease.
- Test lubrication pump pressure and pipeline smoothness.
- Replace lubricant type when ambient temperature changes greatly.
Annual Overhaul
- Disassemble and inspect all bearing components. Check for pitting and wear.
- Replace all aging oil seals, hoses and pipeline fittings.
- Complete system cleaning and full grease replacement.
5. Common Faults & Troubleshooting
- Bearing overheating Possible causes: insufficient grease; excessive grease; grease deterioration; blocked lubrication pipeline; impurities mixed in grease. Solution: Stop the machine, clean bearing cavity, refill proper amount of qualified grease, dredge blocked pipeline.
- Grease leakage Possible causes: damaged oil seal; loose cover bolts; excessive grease filling. Solution: Tighten bolts; replace oil seal; discharge redundant grease.
- No grease output from automatic lubrication pump Possible causes: empty grease barrel; blocked filter or pipeline; pump failure. Solution: Supplement grease; clean filter and pipeline; repair or replace lubrication pump.
6. Critical Safety Notes
- All lubrication maintenance work must be carried out after power cut and equipment shutdown. Lockout-tagout (LOTO) is required to prevent accidental startup.
- Do not add grease when the crusher is running.
- Prevent sand, stone powder and water from entering bearing chamber during grease filling.
- Waste old grease shall be collected and disposed in accordance with environmental regulations, not randomly dumped.
7. Long-term Shutdown Lubrication Protection
If the jaw crusher will be out of service for a long time:
- Fully refill fresh grease into all bearing points.
- Seal all lubrication ports and exposed shaft ends.
- Check lubrication status every 1–2 months, replenish grease if necessary to avoid rusting of moving parts.
