Dust reduction operation skills of jaw crusher production

Dust is one of the major hazards in jaw crushing workshops, which endangers operators’ health, pollutes the surrounding environment, accelerates the wear of jaw plates, bearings and other components, and may even cause dust explosion risks. Reasonable operation and supporting dust suppression measures can effectively control dust concentration during crushing.

1. Feeding & Material Pre-treatment Dust Control Skills

  • Spray appropriate water to moisten raw materials before feeding. Control moisture content reasonably; avoid excessive water that causes material blockage in the crushing chamber and discharge port.
  • Keep uniform and continuous feeding. Prevent sudden large-volume feeding that generates instant dust surge. Do not pile materials above the feed hopper edge to avoid material sliding and flying dust.
  • Set a buffer chute at the feed inlet to reduce the falling height of raw ore. Lower drop height can greatly cut down dust raising when materials hit the hopper and jaw plates.
  • Remove dry and fine powdery materials separately in advance if possible. Fine powder is the main source of fugitive dust.

2. On-site Operational Standard for Dust Reduction

  • Start the dust collection system 3–5 minutes earlier before turning on the jaw crusher; shut down the dust removal equipment 5–10 minutes after the crusher stops, to fully capture residual floating dust.
  • Check all sealing parts of the crusher body regularly: feed inlet cover, discharge port enclosure, side guard plates and connecting gaps. Replace aged rubber sealing strips immediately once air leakage occurs.
  • Avoid frequent idle running of the jaw crusher without materials. High-speed idle operation stirs up accumulated dust inside the frame.
  • Control the crushing gap reasonably. Too small a discharge gap produces more fine powder and raises dust. Adjust CSS according to production requirements instead of blindly pursuing finer finished material.

3. Auxiliary Dust Suppression Configuration & Usage Tips

Dry dust collection mode

  • The baghouse dust collector air volume shall match the model of jaw crusher. Check bag filter regularly for breakage, blockage and air leakage. Timely clean ash hopper to prevent dust re-entrainment.
  • Keep the negative pressure of the sealed enclosure stable. Positive pressure at any gap means dust will escape outward.

Wet dust suppression mode

  • Install atomizing nozzles at feed opening and discharge opening. Adopt fine mist spray, not thick water flow. Align the spray direction to cover the dust rising point.
  • Do not spray water directly onto eccentric shaft bearing, toggle plate and lubrication points. Water ingress will dilute lubricating oil and lead to bearing damage.

4. Conveying & Discharge Dust Control

  • The discharge chute and belt conveyor transfer point shall be equipped with closed dust cover and skirt rubber.
  • Reduce the drop height between jaw crusher discharge and receiving belt. Install buffer roller at transfer position to reduce material bounce and dust flying.

5. Daily Maintenance & Housekeeping

  • Clean accumulated dust on the frame, guard and surrounding ground regularly with vacuum cleaner (dry type). Do not sweep dry dust directly with broom, which will re-suspend dust.
  • Check pipelines, air ducts and flexible connections of dust removal system for blockage, damage and air leakage every shift.
  • Regularly inspect the wear of liner plates and chute. Deformed liners change material flow direction and cause abnormal dust escape.

6. Safety Notes

  • When wet dust suppression is used in cold seasons, take anti-freezing measures for water pipes and nozzles to avoid pipeline cracking.
  • Comply with local environmental emission standards. Regularly monitor workshop dust concentration. Operators must wear dust respirators no matter dust suppression facilities are running.
  • Do not modify the sealed cover or disable dust removal equipment for higher production speed.
